Our Projects

Women Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) Project

Implemented in Taraba and Cross River States, the WPHF project focused on the socio-economic empowerment, peacebuilding, and political participation of displaced women and girls. It tackled issues stemming from internal displacement due to conflict and violence. Activities included advocacy to stakeholders and traditional leaders, knowledge-sharing sessions, peace club formations, trauma healing, vocational training, sustainable agriculture practices, VSLA group formation, and financial literacy. Notable impacts included increased political participation, interfaith and interethnic cohesion, reduction in conflict, economic empowerment through savings groups, and adoption of climate-resilient farming. The project reached over 43,457 women/girls and 29,768 boys/men directly, and more than 290,000 indirectly.

UN Women TRUSTFUND to End Violence Against Women and Girls (SPOTLIGHT INITIATIVE) 2020-2022

The Spotlight Initiative project under the UN Women Trust Fund was implemented to combat sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and empower women and girls. The project aimed to end violence against women and improve health, safety, well-being, and dignity. Strategies employed included community engagement, capacity building, advocacy, and service provision. Trained gender champions facilitated dialogue sessions, while action committees responded to real-time SGBV cases in collaboration with faith leaders, community heads, service providers, and security agencies. Key outcomes included increased awareness, improved survivor response, cultural shifts, sustainability through community ownership, and collaboration among genders.

Sahel Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience Project (SHARP)

SHARP aimed to strengthen livelihoods through climate-smart agriculture, build resilience, promote hygiene, and foster peace in Benue State (Abagena and Ichwa IDP Camps). Key activities included stakeholder engagement, community entry, transforming masculinities training, trauma healing sessions, self-help group formation (VSLAs), peace club formation, and distribution of hygiene kits and seedlings. Over 400 beneficiaries were registered, with validated processes ensuring accountability. The project fostered improved community dialogue, social cohesion, and gender inclusion. Community dialogue graduation events symbolized healing and reconciliation, including emotionally significant gestures between men and women.

HES Unit (Household Economic Strengthening Program)

The HES Unit functions as a foundational pillar supporting livelihood activities across all SUWA projects. By April 2025, it had conducted 81 VSLA trainings, formed over 220 groups, and reached 5,872 individuals. Financial literacy training impacted 2,744 participants. HES also introduced standardization tools like the VSLA formation and monitoring guidelines and a dedicated SUWA VSLA Handbook. Success stories, such as that of Pauline Mangai in Jos, reflect increased income, diversified businesses, and stronger financial autonomy. Enhanced sustainability is achieved through the establishment of community forums, support volunteers, and use of mobile platforms like WhatsApp.

Friends of the Ministry Project

Operating across Plateau, Benue, and Kaduna, this project empowers individuals through HES-led VSLA formation and financial education. It conducted 12 VSLA trainings forming 56 groups, and reached 1,314 people. In addition, 6 financial literacy trainings reached over 1,000 females and 312 males. Over N16.3 million has been shared among the groups. Innovations include selection of support volunteers, use of monitoring guidelines, and community-based capacity-building.

Joint Initiative for Strategic Religious Action (JISRA) Project

Implemented in Plateau and Kaduna States, JISRA aims at promoting peace, religious tolerance, and economic empowerment. Under the HES unit, 7 VSLA trainings formed 25 groups with 496 participants (228 males, 268 females), while 7 financial literacy sessions improved their knowledge on planning, saving, and business growth. JISRA groups shared over N6 million. The project builds inter-religious collaboration and community resilience.
